Wellness Connection of Maine Opens Portland, Maine Facility
Portland, ME (March 28, 2012) – Wellness Connection of Maine (WCM), a state-licensed non-profit medical cannabis dispensary, announced today that it will begin serving patients at its Portland, Maine location this morning.
The new Portland dispensary is a 6,500-square-foot facility located at 685 Congress St., just behind Local 188. Open to qualified patients only, the space will house a dispensary, rooms for services such as acupuncture or personal counseling, administrative offices, a library and a community room for educational events. The renovations to the space, designed with an emphasis on security, safety and the comfort of patients, totaled more than $150,000.
According to Diane Schinella, Manager of the Portland facility, Wellness Connection of Maine expects to serve over 100 patients in the first months of operation. “We are looking forward to getting to know our clients and our neighbors,” she said. “We’ve created a warm, inviting space where supporting each patient’s total well-being is the main focus.”
Staffing plans call for up to eight staff members working at the Portland facility in the first six months of operation. According to Becky DeKeuster, Executive Director of Wellness Connection of Maine, “In addition to providing medicine to seriously ill patients, WCM is pleased to be creating jobs in these difficult economic times.”
DeKeuster also said that WCM currently employs nearly twenty staff members, and expects to double that number by this time next year. She added that the Portland facility will not be holding a grand opening event at this time. An open house for community leaders and an educational event are planned for later this year.
